Lok Janshakti Party has expressed disappointment over the reported statement of Union Minister of Minority Affairs Shri Salman Khursheed on the issues of Muslim reservation in higher education and employment which has poured cold water on the expectations of twenty crore people belonging to the minority communities.
As per media reports Shri Khusheed has stated “As per the Constitutions, there is no quota for communities (religious) but it is there for OBCs. And certain Muslims are already part of the OBC list in states and centre……. All we have said in manifesto is that any Muslims backward group not in the central list of OBCs can be brought in it. It may be attractive in a manifesto but we did not promise anything beyond that.

LJP spokesperson Shri Abdul Khaliq has reminded the Congress party about its pre-election promise of providing reservation in government employment and education for Muslims. The congress party in its election manifesto had referred to the example of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala state governments, which have already implemented reservation for Muslims in their respective states.
Shri Khaliq has further stated that the UPA government in its previous tenure appointed Rangnath Mishra Commission, headed by Justice Rangnath Mishra who is retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The commission has submitted its report to the government. Rangnath Mishra commission is reported to have recommended 15% reservation for religious minorities. Out of which 10% reservation is recommended exclusively for Muslims.
The LJP demanded that the report of the commission should be tabled in the parliament along with action taken report so that meaningful debate could be generated to evolve a consensus on its recommendations. |
