National Dalit Front and Lok Janshakti Party National President Shri Ram Vilas Paswan under took a march from Ahmedabad with thousands of LJP, Dalit Sena workers, LJP State President Mukesh Gujjar and Dalits victims of Banthal village to Banthal, eighty KM away from Ahmedabad on 15th April, where Shri Paswan arranged to unlock the houses of Dalits & rehabilitated them in their houses. He also addressed a public meeting in Banthal & told that there are so many villages in Gujarat where dalits have been harassed and compelled to leave their villages. He announced that he will visit these villages for the rehabilitation and justice for dalits. List of 26 villages from were dalits were evicted is enclosed.
Shri Paswan met Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat on 16th April 2010 and apprised him of the incidents of Banthal village and requested him to order the state government to prevent the atrocities on dalits immediately. Hon’ble Governor promised to take appropriate action in this matter.
Out of 3500 population of Banthal village, 50% population is of Dalits who have been tortured by the upper caste for a the long time. Molestation of women and tortured men is a regular incident of the village. Last year on 28th April there was a three days celebration of Ram Mandir Pran Pratisthan programme in which the Dalit families were denied access to temples by the upper castes. On the same night the strong man of the upper caste called a meeting and took decision to Dalits and kick them out from the village. Shopkeepers were warned not to give them even essential commodities such as milk, rations, vegetables and water. They will not be allowed to crush wheat in atta chakki, no body will ride them on private or public vehicle, no body will give them work in farming and no barber will cut the hair of dalits. If it happens then the concerned person will be fined Rs. 1100/-.
After this farman, dalits under the leadership of social worker and LJP leader Harilal Rantontar lodge FIR in BiIram Gaon, Tahsil police station against the members of Mandir Committee. In connection with FIR SC/ST (Justice Cell) Police Superintendent came to village but did not listen the prayers of dalit, but took side of the upper caste.. With this incident upper caste became more violent against dalits and compelled them to leave the village. Dalits families moved to Reshmari village.
The Chairman of Social Justice Committee Bhikbhai Rajabhai informed the Minister for social Justice and Empowerment regarding the rehabilitation of Dalit in reshmari village and also informed Chief Minister of Gujarat about the worsening position of dalits. Dalits also requested to CM, Governor, and Minister for social Justice and Empowerment by writing a lots of letters for justice but all in vein. They ultimately approached LJP state President Mukesh Gurjar and Dalit Sena President Daya Bhai Parmer, also so many social organizations approached LJP National President & Former Union Minister Shri Ram Vilas Paswan to take this issue on national level. For the justice to Dalits it was decided to stage “Banthal Dalit March”.
National Dalit Front in its meeting held in 12 Janpath on 19.04.10 condemn the whole incident in strongest terms and cautioned Gujarat government that if such incident will not prevented in future, NDF would launch an allegation against the State Govt.
